At 300 PM EST...An occluded low pressure center and associated
triple-point low was analyzed over south-central Minnesota,
gradually moving northeast with time. On the heels of the occluded
front, a frigid Arctic airmass continued to spill into the
Heartland behind the strong cold front racing east across the
Plains. Gusty sustained winds upwards of 25-30 kts were noted over
the Northern Plains as high pressure creeps out of the Canadian
Praries. Afternoon radar mosaic imagery observed an expansive
shield of snowfall pivoting to the northwest around the surface
low center. Meanwhile, a narrow band of convective mixed
precipitation was detected north of a stationary warm front over
eastern Minnesota.
