At 300 PM EST...A low pressure center was analyzed over western
Lake Superior, which is removed from the region of highest
snowfall rates in southwestern Ontario. Another low connected via
a weakening occlusion, now analyzed as a surface trough, was
located east of Lake Superior. The storm system continues to drift
east-northeast this afternoon into southern Ontario as it weakens.
A strong cold front that is ushering in a frigid Arctic airmass
has engulfed the Midwest and is now traversing the Middle
Mississippi and Ohio River Valleys. Blustery wind gusts as high as
35-45 mph were observed over the Midwest in wake of the cold
frontal passage while at the same time, high pressure in
south-central Canada takes hold of the northern High Plains. NWS
Doppler Radar imagery identified ongoing periods of light snow
across northeastern Minnesota and lake-enhanced light snow
northwest Wisconsin.

Light snow showers will continue to fall across northeastern
Minnesota and will slowly drift offshore toward Lake Superior,
dissipating by tonight. The larger storm threat will move further
into Ontario, where a new snowfall threat will emerge due to
surface troughing of northwesterly flow behind the cyclone. This
has the potential to produce prolonged lake-enhanced light to
moderate snow for portions of eastern Minnesota, northern
Wisconsin, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Snowfall may persist
for several days before the cyclone passes through New England and
into maritime Canada. Between 4-8 inches is likely over the region
by the time the snowfall subsides, with locally higher amounts
possible.
This will be the last Storm Summary issued by the Weather
Prediction Center for this event. Please refer to your local
National Weather service office for additional information.
