on the northern extent of the main axis of heavier precipitation
extending from the upper Midwest southward to the Gulf Coast. A

Scattered light to moderate snow is forecast to continue across
Montana and the northern High Plains overnight, with an additional
few inches of snow expected, before snowfall rates intensify on
Friday as a secondary low forms over Great Lakes region and
retrogrades westward. Additional accumulations of up to 1 foot is
expected across the region, with locally higher amounts possible,
especially along the northeastern shores of Minnesota, where
onshore flow and orographic lift may lead to snow totals exceeding
2 feet. Light freezing rain accretions will also be possible
across north-central Wisconsin and Michigan during the overnight
hours with up to 0.1" possible. On Friday, impacts are forecast to
spread eastward as a secondary low pressure tracks across the
Southeast and moves northeastward along the East Coast, bringing
winter impacts to interior portions of the Mid-Atlantic and
Northeast. Potentially significant freezing rain accretions of
0.5"+ are currently forecast along an axis extending from northern
Virginia and far western Maryland northward across west-central
Pennsylvania. Further north, temperature profiles will be cold
enough to support accumulating snow across the interior Northeast
and New England, with snowfall accumulations up to 12-24" possible
through the weekend. As a result of multiple days of snow, blowing
snow, and freezing rain across a broad swath of the country,
travel may become dangerous or impossible at times, so be sure to
refer to WPC or your local NWS office to access the latest
forecasts and learn about potential impacts to your area.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 700 AM PST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
