Precipitation is forecast to continue across the Intermountain
West through tonight with a combination of upslope flow and
upper-level forcing propagating throughout the area. Additional
snowfall accumulations in the higher elevations of as much as 2 to
10 inches are forecast, with locally higher amounts of over a
foot. Maximum snowfall totals will be focused across the San Juan
Mountains of Colorado, the Unita Mountains of Utah, and portions
of central Wyoming. As the system continues to push east through
midweek, the energy associated with it will consolidate across the
Rockies, with low-pressure developing over the central and
southern Plains and intensifying while gradually tracking towards
the Upper Midwest. This system is forecast to produce a large
swath of moderate to heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain as it
tracks across the central United States. Heavy snowfall
accumulations of 6 to 18 inches is forecast across a broad region
encompassing the northern Plains over the next few days, with
locally higher amounts possible. Significant ice accumulations of
0.25-0.50" is currently forecast over eastern Nebraska, northern
Iowa, and southern Minnesota associated with this storm system.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 800 PM MST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
