...Winter Storm to track across the Lower Mississippi Valley and
Southeast tonight...
Winter Storm Warnings are in effect across northern Arkansas,
northern Mississippi, northeast Alabama, central Tennessee,
central and eastern Kentucky, northeast Georgia, northwest South
Carolina, central and western North Carolina, central and western
Virginia, West Virginia, western Maryland, southeast Ohio, western
Pennsylvania, and western New York.
Ice Storm Warnings are in effect for north-central South Carolina
and far eastern Georgia.
Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for south-central
Missouri, eastern Oklahoma, Arkansas, northwestern Mississippi,
north-central Alabama, portions of northern Georgia, central South
Carolina, east-central North Carolina, eastern Virginia, the
District of Columbia, east-central Maryland, east-central
Pennsylvania, northwest New Jersey, and southern New York state.
Winter Storm Watches are in effect across northeast Pennsylvania,
north-central New York state, northwestern Connecticut,
west-central Massachusetts, Vermont, most of New Hampshire, and
western Maine.
Wind Advisories are in effect across far eastern Texas, western
Louisiana, most of Alabama, southern Tennessee, northern and
eastern Florida, western and central Georgia, central South
Carolina, Mid-Atlantic coastline, and Northeast coastline.
High Wind Warnings extend from the Smoky and Blue Ridge mountains
into north-central Georgia, and along the New England coastline.

At 800 PM CST...A deepening surface low with a central pressure of
1005 mb, or 29.68 in. Hg, was analyzed over the Mississippi
coastline at approximately 30.74, 89.06. Moderate snow was falling
near the system's TROWAL (TRough of Warm air ALoft), stretching
across much of Arkansas to the ArkLaTex border. In the warm sector
of the system, Doppler radar detected a wide swath of stratiform
rainfall over the Southeast and Mid-South.

The occluded frontal system is forecast to progress eastward
tonight toward the Piedmont and gradually strengthen. As the low
tracks east, significant snowfall is expected from the Tennessee
Valley to Southern Appalachians with localized snowfall rates
exceeding 1" per hour, alongside dangerously icy conditions in the
Carolina Piedmont and far northwest Georgia tonight and into
Sunday morning.
