996 mb, or 29.41 inches of Mercury, was analyzed over northeastern
North Carolina at approximately 36.3N, 77.7W. An occluded front
from the low pressure center was analyzed connecting to a triple
point along the North Carolina coast. Polarized radar and surface
observations indicated that mixed precipitation was spreading
northward from the Mid-Atlantic into the Northeast as warm air
aloft surges north. Northwest of the low center, moderate to heavy
snow was reported from the Cumberland northeast into the
Alleghenies beneath the mid-level deformation zone. Meanwhile, a
squall line was detected just off the North Carolina coastline
ahead of the cold front.
