...Winter weather event winding down across the interior
Northeast...
Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories remain in
effect for portions of lower Great Lakes into portions of northern
New England.
Flood Watches and Flood Advisories are in effect for portions of
the interior Northeast.
For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov
At 900 AM EST...The center of an elongated low pressure system
with an estimated sea-level pressure of 980 mb, or 28.93 inches of
mercury, was moving quickly off to the east of Maine into the
Canadian Maritimes. A sharp cold front extending southwestward
from the low center was passing through the entire Eastern
Seaboard of the U.S., with much of the rain ready to move off the
East Coast and into the Atlantic. Meanwhile, sharply colder air
behind the front had changed the rain into snow across northern
Maine as the back edge of the snow was rapidly moving in from west
to east. Some snow bands and snow showers had developed downwind
from the lower Great Lakes as a result of arctic air moving over
the warm lake waters.

As the elongated low pressure system continues to move further
east away from the U.S., this wintry weather event is rapidly
winding down. A few additional inches of snow is possible this
morning across far northern Maine before the snow tapers off.
The lake-effect snow downwind from the lower Great Lakes will
gradually taper off later today as well as a high pressure ridge
builds in from the west.
This will be the last Storm Summary issued by the Weather
Prediction Center for this event. Please refer to your local
National Weather service office for additional information.
