At 900 PM EST...A primary low pressure center was analyzed in
southwestern Ontario Province in Canada, with a minimum central
pressure of 1002 mb, or 29.59 inches of mercury. A cold front
extended to the southwest across the Lower Great Lakes, the Ohio
Valley, the Lower Mississippi Valley, and into southern Texas,
before curving back northwest into the Central Rockies. Multiple
additional waves of low pressure were analyzed southwest along the
cold front. A warm front extended to the east of the low through
Ontario Province in Canada and into northern New England. Doppler
radar observations indicated isolated areas of light snow
occurring to the west and northwest of the low over the Northern
Plains to the Upper Great Lakes. A band of heavier snowfall was
moving quickly northeast across Upper Michigan. In addition, a
wintry mix of snow and freezing rain was ongoing along and to the
north of the warm front over northern New England. Surface
observations indicated a stark temperature contrast across the
front, with temperatures as high as the 70s along the western Gulf
Coast quickly dropping into the 30s and 40s. Temperatures
continued to drop behind the front as a cold, arctic air mass
continued to spread southward. Temperatures dropped from the 20s
in Oklahoma to the negative single digits in Nebraska and into the
negative teens in North Dakota. Gusty northerly winds were leading
to even colder wind chills 20 to 30 degrees below zero. In
addition, widespread showers and thunderstorms were ongoing ahead
of the cold front from the Northeast southwest to the western Gulf
Coast.

As the primary low pressure center moves further northeast into
Canada, snowfall will taper off across the Upper Great Lakes
through early Wednesday morning where an additional couple inches
of snow is possible. Further east, a wintry mix will continue
across northern New England through Wednesday morning as well
before the warm front moves north into Canada and temperatures
warm above freezing, switching the precipitation over to rain.
Another inch of snow, half inch of sleet, and quarter inch of
freezing rain all remain possible overnight. Snowfall will be a
bit higher in far northern Maine, where another 1 to 3 inches of
snow is possible.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 AM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
