Storm Summary Number 1 for Northeast Winter Storm
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
1100 AM EDT Sat Mar 23 2024

...Heavy rain, high winds, frozen precipitation, and heavy
snowfall will occur across the Northeast today...

Flood watches are in effect across the Mid-Atlantic region:
northern Virginia, most of Maryland, Delaware, parts of southern
Pennsylvania and parts of coastal New England.

Wind advisories are in effect on the coastlines from Virginia to
Cape Cod.

Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories are issued for
most of upstate New York and New England

For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov

At 1000 AM EDT...A couple of synoptic features were analyzed in
the Northeast winter storm. The interior portions of the Northeast
are seeing a cold front moving eastward, while an attached warm
front to a weak low is traversing northern Pennsylvania, creating a
sharp gradient of precipitation type. The coastal Mid-Atlantic is
seeing heavy rain associated with large scale lift. Heavy rain
will continue to move northeast Saturday and exit the coastal
regions, while snowfall and frozen precipitation should start to
abate by Sunday morning as the fronts pass through the region and
a cool high pressure enters the area. A warm front is attached to
a 1004 mb (29.64 in Hg) low in North Carolina. Most snowfall is
north of the warm front and west of the coastal warm front in much
of New England this morning.
