...Heavy rainfall and dangerous flash flooding threat continues
across the Ohio Valley and Central Appalachians as repeated rounds
of thunderstorms track across the area... 

Flash Flood Warnings are in effect for portions of eastern Indiana
and central Kentucky.

Flood Watches are in effect for most of the Ohio Valley.

At 1000 PM EDT...Latest surface analysis shows a stationary front
positioned north of a ridge of high pressure anchored over the
Gulf Coast. The intense thunderstorms that triggered catastrophic
flash flooding across southeastern Indiana earlier today have
pushed southward into the Tennessee Valley, leaving behind major
to record river flooding across the hard-hit areas. National
Weather Service Doppler radar shows that heavy rain over Indiana
and Ohio has largely ended for now, with only shower and
thunderstorm activity lingering across southeastern Kentucky and
southwestern Virginia.

The stationary front will remain the focal point for additional
rounds of heavy rain as a disturbance tracks out of the Central
Plains into the Midwest. Thunderstorms are expected to organize
into a strong complex over Iowa and Illinois overnight before
moving back into the Ohio Valley on Thursday and Thursday night.
This system will tap into extreme atmospheric moisture, capable of
producing rain rates up to 3 inches per hour. Widespread
additional rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected from Ohio into
the Ohio Valley, with localized training bands dumping 3 to 6
inches or more. Because soils across Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and
West Virginia are completely soaked, any renewed heavy rain will
immediately turn into runoff, creating a threat for considerable
to locally catastrophic flooding through Friday.
