At 800 PM CST...The center of a low pressure system, with its
circulation engulfing much of the eastern half of the country, was
tracking northeastward into the east-central L.P. of Michigan with
an estimated central pressure of 978 mb. Recent radar trends and
surface observations indicated that light to moderate snow,
locally heavy, stretched from Illinois through the upper Great
Lakes, with moderate to heavy snow also occurring north over
northern New England to the north of a warm front. Meanwhile,
locally heavy rain was overspreading much of the East Coast with a
well-defined squall line extending from the Delmarva Peninsula to
South Florida. Very strong and gusty winds associated with the
deep low were also impacting much of the Ohio/Tennessee valleys
and eastern United States.

The deep and record-breaking low pressure system is forecast exit
the Great Lakes tonight before moving into southern Quebec, Canada
Wednesday afternoon. Moderate to locally heavy snow of 6 to
locally 12 inches is forecast to fall on the northern periphery of
this system from the upper Great Lakes to northern New England.
However, warm air surging up the East Coast will lead to a
changeover to rain across much of interior New England on
Wednesday. In addition, strong winds and heavy rain are expected
from the Mid-Atlantic to Northeast, with a slight to moderate risk
of excessive rainfall located across East Coast through tonight
and coastal Maine on Wednesday. Widespread and potentially
significant river and flash flooding are likely in these regions.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 900 AM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
