At 1000 PM EDT...A strong coastal storm was located offshore of
the Mid-Atlantic, slowly moving northwards. The main low was
located just off the North Carolina coast with a minimum central
pressure of 1001 mb (29.56 in Hg), and an occluded front extended
across eastern North Carolina to a triple point low off the
Maryland coast. From the triple point, a cold front extended south
and southwest towards the Florida Keys and a warm front extended
northeast out into the Atlantic. This system was creating a tight
pressure gradient along the U.S. East Coast, resulting in strong
onshore winds gusting 40-50+ mph, which were contributing to
dangerous surf and coastal flooding in the Mid-Atlantic and
southern New England. Additionally, this system was producing
moderate to locally heavy rain across the Mid-Atlantic region.

The strong coastal low will continue to slowly move north along
the U.S. East Coast, with continued impacts through Monday. Strong
onshore winds, high surf, and high astronomical tides will lead to
major coastal flooding in the Mid-Atlantic, and East Coast beaches
will experience strong rip currents and areas of beach erosion.
Damaging wind gusts in excess of 55 mph are expected to continue
along the immediate Mid-Atlantic and southern New England
coastlines, which may lead to power outages and damage. Locally
heavy rain may cause isolated instances of flash flooding in
coastal regions.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1100 AM EDT. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
