At 800 PM CST...An occluded low pressure system with a minimum
central pressure of 992 mb (29.29 in Hg) was located over the
northern Great Lakes. An occluded front stretched from the low
pressure center over the eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan to
northern Upstate New York. A cold front then extended from the
occluded front southward across the Eastern Seaboard to along the
Gulf Coast and into southern Texas. A warm front was draped across
northern New England and extended eastward into the Canadian
Maritimes. The strong pressure gradient around this low pressure
system was producing strong winds across the Upper Midwest, Great
Lakes, and Ohio Valley with widespread wind gusts of 30-40 mph.
National Weather Service Doppler Radar showed moderate to heavy
snow falling across parts of Wisconsin and Michigan with lake
effect snow bands beginning to develop downwind of the Great Lakes.

The strong low pressure system will track northeastward into
southeast Canada tonight into Thursday, taking the threat of
widespread moderate to heavy snow along with it. However, as the
system pulls away, bands of heavy lake effect snow will ramp up
downwind of the Great Lakes through the end of the week.
Additional snowfall totals of 1-2 feet with locally higher amounts
are expected underneath the most intense and persistent snow
bands.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 900 AM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
