downstream of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan.
Lake Effect Snow Warnings are in effect for downwind areas of Lake
Erie and Lake Ontario.

At 800 AM CST...An occluded low pressure system was located over
southeastern Canada with a minimum central pressure of 996 mb
(29.41 in Hg). A tight pressure gradient extended across the Great
Lakes region of the United States, resulting in strong, gusty
west-northwesterly winds, with gusts up to 25-40 mph. Lake effect
snow bands were forming off the Great Lakes and producing moderate
to locally heavy snow in favored downwind locations.

Strong winds on the backside of the low pressure system will
continue to impact the Great Lakes region through Friday. Heavy
lake effect snow will continue downwind of the Great Lakes. Lake
effect snow should taper off across the western lakes by mid-day
Friday but linger downwind of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
