At 900 AM EST...An intense cyclone, with an estimated central
pressure of 966 mb (28.53 in Hg) was centered about 140 miles
south-southeast of Chatham, MA. After deepening explosively just
off the Delmarva peninsula last evening, the center of this
intense cyclone continues to track east-northeast passing between
100 to 200 miles south of the southern New England coast this
morning while the cyclone continues to deepen. Heavy snow in
combination with gale-force winds were battering all of coastal
southern New England, especially southeastern New England where
hurricane force wind gusts have been reported. National Weather

around eastern Massachusetts into Rhode Island, as moderate to
heavy snow continues across the interior section of southern New
England, New York City, and much of New Jersey.

The intense Nor'easter will continue to track east-northeastward
and gradually pull away from New England. Southeastern New England
is currently experiencing the most severe blizzard conditions. As
the Nor'easter moves farther away, heavy snow and high winds
across southern New England and New Jersey will gradually diminish
later today. However, coastal Maine could see heavier snow and
gale-force winds later today into the evening before the storm
pulls away on Tuesday. Snowfall totals as high as one to two feet
can be expected from this Nor'easter from the Delmarva Peninsula
to Massachusetts, with 6 to 12 inches up coastal Maine. The
combination of heavy snowfall and strong wind gusts (40-70 mph)
will result in blizzard conditions across these regions, and
sharply reduced visibility will make travel extremely treacherous.
These strong winds combined with the weight of heavy, wet snow,
should result in scattered to numerous power outages.
Additionally, moderate to major coastal flooding, with the
inundation of roads and property near the waterfront, is forecast
from Delaware to Cape Cod.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 PM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
