At 300 PM EST...An intense cyclone, with an estimated central
pressure of 965 mb (28.50 in Hg) was centered about 140 miles
east-southeast of Chatham, MA. After deepening explosively just
off the Delmarva peninsula last evening, the center of this
intense cyclone continued to track east-northeast passing between
100 to 200 miles south of the southern New England coast this
morning and is pushing further east away from New England this
afternoon. Heavy snow in combination with gale-force winds
continued to batter southeastern New England where hurricane-force
wind gusts have been reported. National Weather Service Doppler
radar showed very heavy snow bands were pivoting around
southeastern Massachusetts. Farther west, the intensity of the
snow and wind across the remaining section of southern New England
had begun to weaken including New York City. The snow across New
Jersey was beginning to taper off. Meanwhile, a heavier snow band
was approaching coastal Maine where blizzard conditions could be
experienced in the next few hours.

The intense Nor'easter will continue to track east-northeastward
and gradually pull away from New England. As the Nor'easter moves
farther away, blizzard conditions across southeastern New England
will gradually subside this evening. However, coastal Maine
should see heavier snow and gale-force winds further into the
evening before the storm pulls away on Tuesday. Snowfall totals as
high as one to three feet plus can be expected from this
Nor'easter from the Delmarva Peninsula to Massachusetts, with 6 to
12 inches up coastal Maine. The combination of heavy snowfall and
strong wind gusts (40-60 mph) will result in blizzard conditions
across these regions, and sharply reduced visibility will make
travel extremely treacherous. These strong winds combined with the
weight of heavy, wet snow, should result in scattered to numerous
power outages. Additionally, moderate to major coastal flooding,
with the inundation of roads and property near the waterfront, is
forecast from Delaware to Cape Cod.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 PM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
