Storm Summary Number 3 for South-Central to Southeast Heavy
Rainfall
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
900 AM CST Thu Jan 25 2024

...A sluggish system is starting to move eastward, but will
continue to bring the threat of heavy rainfall and flash flooding
from Louisiana eastward into the the Gulf Coast and Southeast
regions.

Flood Watches and scattered areas of Flood Warnings are in effect
for eastern Texas/Texas Gulf Coast, across the central Gulf Coast
region and into Tennessee

For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov

At 800 AM CST...A frontal boundary, with embedded waves of low
pressure located in Arkansas and Louisiana, has slowly begun to
drift southeastward and move into the mid-Mississippi Valley.
National Weather Service radars indicated multiple organized
clusters of heavy rain and thunderstorms were moving across
western to central Gulf Coast states. A complex of thunderstorms
is moving across Louisiana ahead of the cold front, bringing
torrential rains and the aforementioned hazard of flash flooding.
Less organized storm clusters and moderate rainfall is occurring
around central Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi due to enhanced
lift along a draped stationary boundary from yesterday's storm
systems.

Additional upper-level shortwaves are forecast to move off the
southern Rockies into the southern Plains over the next couple of
days and interact with the stationary front. Multiple waves of low
pressure developing along the front will bring bouts of heavy rain
and thunderstorms that will only progress very slowly eastward
across the central Gulf Coast states. This will keep the threat of
flash flooding in place through the next couples of days. Heavy
rain may also be enhanced by thunderstorms training across the
same region. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches, are possible
across sections of the Gulf Coast into the southern Applachians
through Saturday.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 900 PM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
