Wintry precipitation will continue across the Upper Midwest and
Great Lakes today, with heavy snowfall across the Upper Midwest
and significant icing in the Great Lakes region. Heavy snow with
intense snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour are likely for
central and northern Minnesota through this evening. Widespread
snowfall totals of more than 8 inches are expected and may exceed
12 inches in some areas. Heavy snow and gusty winds will reduce
visibility and create dangerous driving conditions. Freezing rain
will create hazardous travel conditions as well across eastern
Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, and northern Michigan, especially
through midday today. The greatest ice accumulations are expected
in northern Wisconsin and Michigan where 0.25 to 0.5 inches is
forecast. This ice will compound impacts from the most recent
storm, increasing the risk of tree damage and power outages.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 PM CDT. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
