Blizzard of 1978 - Northeast U.S.

1-3 feet of snow fell from the northern Delmarva Peninsula northward through New England on February 6-7, 1978. Gale and hurricane force winds accompanied the storm which created blizzard conditions over much of the Northeast and left monsterous drifts over New England where the heaviest snow fell. In addition to significant negative SDs associated with the storm at 500 and 850 hPa, note the strong positive SDs assocaited with blocking in the higher latitudes over northern Manatoba and Hudson Bay.
