An early season snowstorm dropped 6-12 inches of wet snow over the Kansas City Metropolitan area on October 22, 1996. An unusually deep 500 hPa low over souther Missouri was observed to be 4 standard deviations below climatology. The 850 hPa temperatures were 3.5 standard devaition below climatology on the cold advection side of the system.
