STORM SUMMARY 21 FOR TROPICAL DEPRESSION DANNY
NATIONAL CENTERS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PREDICTION

100 PM EDT MON JUL 21 1997

AT 11AM EDT MONDAY MORNING...THE CIRCULATION OF TROPICAL DEPRESSION
DANNY REMAINED OVER WESTERN ALABAMA.  SURFACE PRESSURES IN THE
VICINITY OF THE STORM SYSTEM CONTINUE TO SLOWLY RISE AS THE
DEPRESSION GRADUALLY WEAKENS.  HIGHEST SUSTAINED WINDS WERE
AROUND 15 MPH WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO 30 MPH.  THE STORM HAS BEEN
DRIFTING SLOWLY NORTHWARD THIS MORNING AND MAY BEGIN A FASTER
MOVEMENT TOWARD THE NORTH NORTHEAST ON TUESDAY.

HEAVY RAINFALL CONTINUES TO BE THE PRIMARY CONCERN WITH THE
TROPICAL DEPRESSION.  FLASH FLOOD WATCHES ARE IN EFFECT FOR PORTIONS
OF WESTERN ALABAMA AND EASTERN MISSISSIPPI TODAY.  FLASH FLOOD
WARNINGS CONTINUE  FOR MARENGO...SUMTER...AND CHOCTAW COUNTIES OF
ALABAMA THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON.  CHOCTAW COUNTY HAS RECEIVED
TORRENTIAL RAINFALL THIS MORNING WITH REPORTS OF 9 INCHES OF RAIN IN
JUST A FEW HOURS.  FLOOD WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT FOR MOBILE AND
BALDWIN COUNTIES OF ALABAMA WHERE NUMEROUS ROADS REMAIN CLOSED
AND MANY SMALL RIVERS AND STREAMS ARE ABOVE FLOOD STAGE.

THE SLOW MOVEMENT OF THE DEPRESSION WILL CONTINUE TO CREATE A
DANGEROUS FLOODING SITUATION.  THE HEAVIEST RAIN IS EXPECTED FROM
EAST CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI AND WEST CENTRAL ALABAMA NORTHEASTWARD
TO NORTHERN GEORGIA ALONG THE TRACK OF THE STORM.  ADDITIONAL
RAINFALL TOTALS OF 3 TO 5 INCHES WILL BE COMMON THROUGHOUT THIS
AREA WHILE SOME ISOLATED LOCATIONS MAY RECEIVE OVER 10 INCHES.
