AT 1AM EDT WEDNESDAY MORNING...WHAT IS LEFT OF THE CIRCULATION OF
TROPICAL DEPRESSION DANNY WAS LOCATED EAST OF BIRMINGHAM
ALABAMA... NEAR THE ALABAMA/GEORGIA BORDER. AS HAS BEEN TYPICAL FOR
THIS STORM... HEAVIEST RAINS CONTINUE TO OCCUR TO THE NORTH AND WEST
OF THE CIRCULATION. RAIN BANDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE STORM COVER
PORTIONS OF NORTHERN MISSISSIPPI AND ALABAMA... AND EXTEND EASTWARD
INTO GEORGIA. LOWEST OBSERVED PRESSURE WAS 1014 MB... SURFACE WINDS
AROUND THE DEPRESSION WERE GENERALLY LESS THAN 15 MPH... AND THE
SYSTEM CONTINUES TO MOVE SLOWLY NORTHEASTWARD.
SINCE THE LAST STORM SUMMARY A TORNADO WAS OBSERVED NEAR OPELIKA
IN LEE COUNTY ALABAMA. THIS TORNADO PRODUCED DAMAGE TO TREES AND
BUILDINGS.. BUT NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. EARLY THIS AFTERNOON A
TORNADO WARNING WAS IN EFFECT FOR RUSSELL COUNTY IN EAST CENTRAL
ALABAMA. NORTHWESTERN GEORGIA WAS UNDER A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM
WARNING TUESDAY AFTERNOON.
SEVERE WEATHER AND HEAVY RAINFALL CONTINUE TO BE THE PRIMARY
CONCERN WITH THE REMNANTS OF DANNY. THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING IN
EFFECT THIS EVENING FOR CHOCTAW COUNTY IN SOUTHWESTERN ALABAMA
HAS EXPIRED. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES WERE ESTIMATED THERE
BETWEEN 6:00 AND 9:00 P.M. FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS IN CLEBURNE AND
RANDOLPH COUNTIES IN EAST CENTRAL ALABAMA AND FLASH FLOOD
WATCHES FOR CULLMAN.. BLOUNT.. JEFFERSON.. ST. CLAIR.. AND SHELBY
COUNTIES IN NORTH CENTRAL PART OF THE STATE HAVE BEEN CANCELED OR
ALLOWED TO EXPIRE. HOWEVER.. WARNINGS AND WATCHES REMAIN IN EFFECT
FOR OTHER PORTIONS OF NORTH CENTRAL ALABAMA. EARLIER THIS EVENING
HEAVY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MOVED THROUGH THE ATLANTA
METRO AREA AND PORTIONS OF DEKALB AND MERIWETHER COUNTIES IN
GEORGIA... WITH 2-3 INCHES REPORTED OVER SOUTHERN SECTIONS OF THIS
AREA.
POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING WITH THIS STORM WILL CONTINUE TODAY DUE TO
ITS SLOW MOVEMENT. HEAVIEST RAIN IS EXPECTED ALONG THE TRACK OF THE
SYSTEM FROM NORTHEASTERN GEORGIA TO WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA BY
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL TOTALS OF 3 TO 5 INCHES
WILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGHOUT THIS AREA WHILE SOME ISOLATED
LOCATIONS MAY RECEIVE UP TO 4 TO 8 INCHES.
