Tropical Storm Arlene -
July 3-5,
1971
A frontal wave formed offshore the Carolinas on July 3rd. A
convective mass formed near the wave on
the 5th, and spiral banding developed. The system, now a tropical
storm, moved northeast offshore the
Eastern Seaboard. As the system moved east of Newfoundland on the
7th, it lost tropical characteristics.
Below are the rainfall graphics associated with Arlene, with rainfall
data provided by the National Climatic
Data Center in Asheville, North
Carolina. Due to the distance offshore the cyclone traveled,
rainfall amounts
were relatively light across the Carolinas and Virginia.
