Hurricane Liza - September 30-October 3, 1976

Liza was the second hurricane of the season to move ashore the Mexican coastline.  Brushing by the eastern
tip of Baja California, Liza moved northward through the Gulf of California to make landfall 45 miles north of
Los Mochis.  La Paz sustained considerable damage and loss of life as heavy rains resulted in the failure of an
earthen dam.  The flood waters took at least 435 lives.  Below are the storm total graphics for Liza.  Data for
the maps was obtained from the Comision del Agua, the parent agency of Mexico's National Weather Service.
