A tropical wave moved offshore Africa and traveled uneventfully across the Atlantic ocean and
Caribbean Sea for more than 15 days. Development occurred in the Gulf of Mexico, with the
resultant tropical depression forming offshore Tampico on July 5th. The system drifted westward
while slowly developing, but made landfall on the 7th before achieving tropical storm strength. The
depression dissipated later that day, though the remnant cloud and thunderstorm pattern maintained
integrity well into the 9th before dissipating southwest of Texas. Below are the storm total rainfall
maps for the depression, using data provided by the National Climatic Data Center and the Comision
Nacional del Agua, the parent agency of Mexico's national weather service.
