STORM SUMMARY MESSAGE

STORM SUMMARY NUMBER 2 FOR CENTRAL U.S. HEAVY RAINFALL
NWS HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL PREDICTION CENTER CAMP SPRINGS MD
400 AM CDT SUN SEP 9 2007

...A QUASI-STATIONARY FRONTAL BOUNDARY CURRENTLY EXTENDING FROM
SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND INTO THE OHIO VALLEY AND SOUTHWESTWARD INTO
NORTHERN TEXAS HAS BEEN THE FOCUS FOR MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL
OVER THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS...

FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS ARE CURRENTLY IN EFFECT FOR SMALL PORTIONS OF
EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND SOUTHEASTERN NEW MEXICO.

FLOOD WARNINGS HAVE BEEN ISSUED FOR SEVERAL AREAS INCLUDING
PORTIONS OF OKLAHOMA...EXTREME SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS...SOUTHWESTERN
MISSOURI...AND A FEW ISOLATED REGIONS OF ARKANSAS. FARTHER
NORTH...FLOOD WARNINGS ARE ALSO IN EFFECT FOR PARTS OF WESTERN
ILLINOIS.

FLOOD WATCHES ARE IN EFFECT FOR PARTS OF THE CENTRAL U.S.
INCLUDING MUCH OF NORTHERN ARKANSAS...SOUTHERN
MISSOURI...NORTHEAST INDIANA...THE NORTHERN HALF OF OHIO...AND
EXTREME NORTHWESTERN PENNSYLVANIA.

OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS...A FRONTAL BOUNDARY HAS REMAINED
QUASI-STATIONARY ACROSS MUCH OF THE OHIO VALLEY...CENTRAL
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY...AND CENTRAL PLAINS. THE COMBINATION OF
MOISTURE FROM THE REMAINS OF HURRICANE HENRIETTE AND THE GULF OF
MEXICO HAS ALLOWED A CONCENTRATED AREA OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS TO PERSIST ACROSS THIS BOUNDARY.

AT 330 AM CDT...A LARGE AREA OF SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED
THUNDERSTORMS WAS VISIBLE ACROSS MUCH OF THE STATIONARY FRONTAL
BOUNDARY. THE MOST CONCENTRATED AREA OF PRECIPITATION WAS ACROSS
MUCH OF OHIO NEAR THE LOCATION OF A SURFACE LOW RIDING ALONG THE
FRONT. MOST OF THE RAINFALL APPEARS TO BE MOVING SLOWLY TO THE
EAST-NORTHEAST SUNDAY MORNING.
