PLAINS...
A LARGE AREA EXTENDING FROM THE SOUTHERN PLAINS EASTWARD THROUGH
THE OZARKS AND INTO THE TENNESSEE RIVER VALLEY IS UNDER A WINTER
STORM WARNING WITH WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES BOUNDING THIS REGION
TO THE NORTH AND SOUTH. MEANWHILE...WINTER STORM WATCHES HAVE BEEN
ISSUED ACROSS THE TENNESSEE RIVER VALLEY AND INTO THE LOWER
MID-ATLANTIC.

AT 200 PM CST...A LARGE COMPLEX OF PRECIPITATION WAS MOVING
THROUGH THE SOUTHERN HIGH PLAINS AS WELL AS THE SOUTHERN PLAINS. A
WEST-TO-EAST ORIENTED SURFACE BOUNDARY HAS GENERALLY
DIFFERENTIATED THE PRECIPITATION TYPES WITH WINTRY PRECIPITATION
TO THE NORTH AND SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS TO THE SOUTH. IN
PARTICULAR...LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW WAS BEING REPORTED ACROSS THE
TEXAS PANHANDLE AND ALONG THE TEXAS/NEW MEXICO BORDER.
MEANWHILE...WARMER AIR ALOFT LINGERS ABOVE A SUBFREEZING SURFACE
ACROSS MUCH OF OKLAHOMA THEREBY PRODUCING A MIXTURE OF FREEZING
RAIN AND SLEET. WITHIN THE WARM SECTOR OF THE FRONTAL SYSTEM...A
COMPLEX OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IS MOVING EAST-NORTHEASTWARD
THROUGH CENTRAL TEXAS. SOME OF THESE REGIONS HAVE BEEN ACCOMPANIED

HEAVY SNOW THREAT THURSDAY FROM EASTERN NEW MEXICO...ACROSS THE
TEXAS/OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE...FAR SOUTHERN KANSAS AND INTO
NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA. SNOW TOTALS OF 6 TO 12 INCHES EXPECTED
ACROSS THIS AREA. THE HEAVY SNOW IS FORECAST TO SPREAD EASTWARD
FRIDAY ACROSS SOUTHERN MISSOURI...NORTHERN TO CENTRAL
ARKANSAS...TENNESSEE...SOUTHERN KENTUCKY...SOUTHERN VIRGINIA AND
WESTERN TO CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA. SNOW TOTALS IN EXCESS OF 4
INCHES POSSIBLE ACROSS THESE AREAS. IN ADDITION TO THE HEAVY SNOW
THREAT...THERE WILL BE THE THREAT OF SIGNIFICANT ICING THURSDAY
FROM PORTIONS OF WEST TEXAS INTO CENTRAL OKLAHOMA. THIS ICING
THREAT IS FORECAST TO SPREAD EASTWARD FRIDAY ACROSS PORTIONS OF
EASTERN ARKANSAS...FAR NORTHERN MISSISSIPPI...SOUTHERN
TENNESSEE...INTO UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA AND ACROSS WESTERN TO
CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA.
