...MAJOR WINTER STORM RACING EASTWARD INTO THE TENNESSEE RIVER
VALLEY...
WINTER STORM WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT FROM PORTIONS OF
OKLAHOMA/KANSAS EASTWARD THROUGH THE TENNESSEE VALLEY AND INTO THE
DELMARVA PENINSULA. BOUNDING THIS REGION TO THE NORTH AND SOUTH
ARE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES. IN ADDITION...ICE WARNINGS HAVE
BEEN ISSUED ALONG THE NORTH CAROLINA/SOUTH CAROLINA BORDER.
FLASH FLOOD WATCHES AND FLOOD WARNINGS REMAIN IN EFFECT ACROSS
PORTIONS OF THE GULF COAST STATES

AT 800 PM CST...A FAST MOVING SWATH OF PRECIPITATION WAS PUSHING
INTO THE TENNESSEE RIVER VALLEY AND LOWER MID-ATLANTIC STATES.
THIS WAS SPREADING LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW INTO NORTHERN TENNESSEE
AND SOUTHERN KENTUCKY...AS WELL AS INTO WESTERN PORTIONS OF THE
CAROLINAS AND SOUTHWESTERN VIRGINIA. IN ADDITION...UNDERNEATH A
STRONG UPPER LOW...A SLOW-MOVING BATCH OF SNOWFALL WAS AFFECTING
MUCH OF THE OZARKS AS IT GRADUALLY EDGED EASTWARD.
MEANWHILE...SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WERE BREAKING OUT ACROSS
MUCH OF MISSISSIPPI AND ALABAMA WITH THE BEST CONVECTION
DEVELOPING NEAR THE SURFACE LOW CENTER. THIS CYCLONE WAS LOCATED
EAST OF MOBILE...ALABAMA AND WAS MOVING EASTWARD AT APPROXIMATELY
18 MPH WITH A PRESSURE OF 1007 MB (29.74 INCHES). IN BETWEEN THE
AXES OF RAIN AND SNOW IS A STEADY AREA OF FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET
WHICH WAS IMPACTING CENTRAL ARKANSAS EASTWARD INTO SOUTHWESTERN
TENNESSEE.

THE UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CURRENTLY OVER THE ARKLATEX
WILL PUSH EASTWARD TONIGHT AND REACH THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY
BY THE FOLLOWING MORNING. IN ADDITION...A SURFACE LOW PRESSURE
CENTER ALONG THE CENTRAL GULF COAST WILL CONTINUE TO PROGRESS
EASTWARD THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING WHILE GENERALLY MAINTAINING ITS
INTENSITY. THE COMPLIMENTARY PAIR OF LOW CENTERS WILL SUPPORT
SNOWFALL TONIGHT FROM THE OZARKS EASTWARD THROUGH THE TENNESSEE
RIVER VALLEY AND INTO THE LOWER MID-ATLANTIC STATES. SNOW TOTALS
IN EXCESS OF 4 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THESE AREAS. IN ADDITION
TO THE HEAVY SNOW THREAT...THERE WILL BE THE THREAT OF SIGNIFICANT
ICING TONIGHT FROM PORTIONS OF ARKANSAS EASTWARD THROUGH MUCH OF
THE TENNESSEE RIVER VALLEY.
THE NEXT STORM SUMMARY WILL BE ISSUED BY THE HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL
PREDICTION CENTER AT 300 AM CST. PLEASE REFER TO YOUR LOCAL
