AS THE VIGOROUS LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVES STEADILY TO THE EAST AND
INTERACTS WITH COLD AIR FROM THE NORTH...A SIGNIFICANT WINTER
STORM IS EXPECTED TO SPREAD ACROSS THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN
ROCKIES TODAY...AND INTO THE PLAINS ON TUESDAY. SNOW LEVELS WILL
RAPIDLY LOWER TODAY ACROSS THE FOUR CORNERS REGION AND INTO THE
CENTRAL ROCKIES...RESULTING IN WIDESPREAD AND POTENTIALLY HEAVY
SNOW. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS EXCEEDING ONE FOOT ARE POSSIBLE AT THE
HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE COLORADO ROCKIES...THE WASATCH AND THE
MOGOLLON RIM WITH SOME AREAS POSSIBLY EXCEEDING TWO FEET. THE
DENVER METRO AREA COULD SEE UP TO A FOOT OF SNOW AS WELL. THE
SYSTEM WILL BEGIN TO MOVE INTO THE PLAINS TODAY WITH WIDESPREAD
SNOW EXPECTED TO SPREAD ACROSS THE CENTRAL PLAINS BY MONDAY
AFTERNOON. SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD EASTWARD INTO PORTIONS OF
THE UPPER MIDWEST TONIGHT AND INTO THE UPPER GREAT LAKES ON
TUESDAY. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF ONE FOOT ARE POSSIBLE
ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS WITH LIGHTER AMOUNTS OF
4 TO 8 INCHES POSSIBLE ACROSS THE UPPER MIDWEST THROUGH TUESDAY
AFTERNOON. ADDITIONALLY AS THE SURFACE LOW MOVES ACROSS THE PLAINS
ON TUESDAY A TIGHTENING PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL RESULT IN THE
POTENTIAL FOR WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 40 MPH FOR SOME AREAS OF THE
MIDWEST WHICH COULD RESULT IN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS.
THE NEXT STORM SUMMARY WILL BE ISSUED BY THE WEATHER PREDICTION
CENTER AT 700 AM PST. PLEASE REFER TO YOUR LOCAL NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE OFFICE FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS EVENT.
