OCCLUDED FRONT EXTENDED FROM THE LOW CENTER EASTWARD TO A SECOND
LOW IN WESTERN COLORADO AND THEN SOUTHWARD TO NORTHWEST NEW
MEXICO. FROM THERE A COLD FRONT EXTENDS SOUTHWARD ACROSS NEW
MEXICO. A WARM FRONT EXTENDED EASTWARD ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PLAINS.
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADARS AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS SHOWED
SHOWERS WERE MOVING ACROSS NEW MEXICO AHEAD OF THE COLD FRONT.

A SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM IS EXPECTED TO SPREAD ACROSS THE
CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN ROCKIES TODAY...AND INTO THE PLAINS ON
TUESDAY. SNOW LEVELS WILL RAPIDLY LOWER TODAY ACROSS THE FOUR
CORNERS REGION AND INTO THE CENTRAL ROCKIES...RESULTING IN
WIDESPREAD AND POTENTIALLY HEAVY SNOW. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS EXCEEDING
ONE FOOT ARE POSSIBLE AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE COLORADO
ROCKIES...THE WASATCH AND THE MOGOLLON RIM WITH SOME AREAS
POSSIBLY EXCEEDING TWO FEET. THE DENVER METRO AREA COULD SEE UP TO
A FOOT OF SNOW AS WELL. THE SYSTEM WILL BEGIN TO MOVE INTO THE
PLAINS TODAY WITH WIDESPREAD SNOW EXPECTED TO SPREAD ACROSS THE
CENTRAL PLAINS BY MONDAY AFTERNOON. SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD
EASTWARD INTO PORTIONS OF THE UPPER MIDWEST TONIGHT AND INTO THE
UPPER GREAT LAKES ON TUESDAY. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF ONE
FOOT ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS WITH
LIGHTER AMOUNTS OF 4 TO 8 INCHES POSSIBLE ACROSS THE UPPER MIDWEST
THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON. ADDITIONALLY AS THE SURFACE LOW MOVES
ACROSS THE PLAINS ON TUESDAY WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 40 MPH COULD
RESULT IN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS.
