Model Depiction of a Negatively Tilted TUTT Low Vertical Cross Section

This is a vertical cross section through the TUTT low. It shows wind barbs (Kt), potential temperature (yellow), and relative vorticity (cylonic red, anticyclonic blue).
The wind barbs clearly show a negatively tilted low, with the slope tilting eastward with height (rather than westward with height as we normally see with most polar systems). As we go up in the atmosphere, the trough starts at 500/600 hPa near 05S 39W and peaks around 200 hPa near 05S 36W.
The cold core characteristics of this system are evident as we analyze the potential temperature contours, with the isotherms bulging upward as we approach the center of the low.
Analysis of the relative vorticity shows the cyclonic vorticity increasing with height, characteristic of a cold core system, reaching its maximum cyclonic value as we near the tropopause.
