Texas and southern Louisiana as Hurricane Nicholas approaches the
coast... 

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the central Gulf Coast.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the central and eastern
Texas Gulf Coast.

Flash Flood Warnings are in effect for portions of the central
Texas Gulf Coast.

A Storm Surge Warning is in  effect for the central and eastern
Texas Gulf Coast.

Flood Warnings are in effect for areal rivers from the central
Texas Gulf Coast and southern Louisiana.

A Hurricane Watch is in effect for the central Texas Gulf Coast.

Flash Flood Watches are in effect for the central and eastern
Texas Gulf Coast and all of southern Louisiana.

A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for the far southwest Louisiana
Gulf Coast.

At 1000 PM EDT...National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
widespread moderate to heavy rainfall overspreading portions of
the central and eastern Texas Gulf Coast north and east of the
center of Hurricane Nicholas as it approached the coast. This
rainfall was located roughly from Port O'Connor northeast to
southeastern portions of the Houston metropolitan area and east
along Interstate 10. Moderate to heavy rainfall was also occurring
further east into southwestern Louisiana as well as with a
rainband moving over southeastern Louisiana. For more information
