Alaska Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 454 PM EDT Mon May 20 2024 Valid 12Z Fri May 24 2024 - 12Z Tue May 28 2024 ...Guidance Evaluation and Preferences... The 12Z model guidance suite was in reasonably good agreement. Due to such, the WPC fronts/pressures forecast was primarily derived from a multi-deterministic model compromise for the end of the week, followed by gradually increasing percentages of the ECENS and NAEFS means going through next weekend, while still maintaining the GFS/ECMWF and a little of the CMC. ...Overview and Weather/Hazards Highlights... Precipitation amounts are expected to be modest through the period, with the highest rain chances in western and southern sections of the state with snow chances low for the North Slope. Gale-force winds are possible across portions of the Aleutians and the AK Peninsula. Temperatures are forecast to be mild to warm for most Interior locations, with highs generally in the 60s to perhaps 70 degrees for the lower elevations, and lows from the upper 30s to middle 40s. Readings closer to the southern coast will generally be in the upper 40s to middle 50s, and in the 30s for the Arctic Coast.
