Alaska Extended Forecast Discussion National Weather Service College Park MD 458 PM EST Sun Nov 30 2025 Valid 12Z Thu 04 Dec 2025 - 12Z Mon 08 Dec 2025 ...Overview... A closed low will amplify over the Aleutians midweek before phasing with a trough centered over the Kamchatka Peninsula. Retrograding energy from a northern stream trough will negatively tilt over the eastern/central mainland by next weekend. Upper ridging with embedded transient shortwaves propagating through will remain over the Panhandle. An eastern Siberian ridge will gradually build into the Bering Strait. ...Guidance Evaluation and Preferences... A multi-model blend is used on day 4. The Euro suite is favored in the blend with some Canadian suite after day 4, because of their reasonable solution to the mid-level pattern evolution. The GEFS mean has an unusual amount of spread beyond day 5, therefore it wasn't featured in the blend beyond day 4. ...Weather/Hazards Highlights... Cold air will begin spreading southward at the middle of next week, as high pressure builds over eastern Siberia, the Bering Sea and the North Slope. Meanwhile, showers and mountain snow will persist along the Gulf Coast. There's potential for heavy precipitation along the Panhandle next weekend associated with a low pressure system. There's high wind potential for the Lower Yukon/Kuskokwim, and Nunivak Island on Wednesday and Thursday, but not enough certainty to introduce a hazard area at this time.
